Why do we exist?

Obviously, this judgment-free zone is run by someone. Who's behind this growing league of extraordinary educators?

It’s me.

Hi.

I’m the founder. It’s me.

Karen Au. A Chinese Canadian geek of an educator.

And no, the irony of quoting Taylor Swift in the EdCoach Network's Origin Story is not lost on me. But Tay writes persistently catchy songs and I'm not apologizing, dammit.

Let’s be real for a second, though.

Growing up, I never realized how much of me was absent from my school experience.

From my teachers to the curriculum content - not much reflected my family, my values, my identity.

And now, as a teacher myself, none of my direct supervisors have ever looked like me.

Very few of my colleagues are members of the Asian diaspora.

Even fewer are black or self-ID’d Indigenous folks.

So much of our educational training and resources are inevitably problematic, simply because the people creating them don't always consult with real communities for their lived experiences.

So here I am. Here we are. Punching through the glass ceiling with our community so that we can, in our own way, create a judgment-free zone for people like you and me who want to challenge, unpack our biases, and make learning safe and engaging. Because we matter. Our kids matter.

I am the founder of the EdCoach Network, and I’m honestly so grateful that you’re here.

Let’s get one thing clear: while I’m the face of this community, I’m by no means the sole expert. Our community members are the real experts, and I lean on them all the time for consultation.

Respectfully, my consultants are all a bit shy, and would rather I do all the coordinating (thanks, y’all…) so… yea. Hi!

And that's me. That's us. Thank you for being here. (My toddler thanks you too.)

We really look forward to getting to know you!
